About Me

I have been teaching for over 11 years now. I have experience in the FE, Sixth Form College and School Sixth Form sectors. I now work part-time in Adult Education and carry out consultancy work.

My teaching experience covers psychology, health and social care, sociology, general studies and pastoral provision. I have also been involved in one-to-one study skills, helping students to improve their grades. I am an assistant examiner for the AQA A specifications.

I have always tried to be student centred in both my philosophy of teaching and learning and in practice. I believe with a passion that I am not the ‘oracle’ imparting wisdom to my students to regurgitate in the examination. I want students to ‘learn to learn’, so that they develop life-long skills, enjoy their learning experience and improve their performance as a result.

This web-site is a realisation of a few years pondering about how I could share my ideas with students and teachers beyond my immediate classroom. I want other teachers and students to be able to pass on ‘wisdom’ through the site too.

I did not want to produce a website that would be used in isolation of the classroom experience, working with Tell-Online, we have developed a extranet community of psychology teachers and students so that communication runs between us and enhances our experience of teaching and learning.

Why a café? When we telephone to book a meal, the owner does not ask for a detailed inventory of who in our party likes this, or that. The proprietor assumes, instead, that a good quality, varied menu will mean most, if not all of our party will leave having had a good experience. Likewise, in ensuring that our learning approaches are varied and of good quality, most, if not all learners will come out having had a good experience. Just as food is essential for life, so learning is essential if we are to live life to the full.

So, with food for thought, I hope you will enjoy exploring and using the site.

Welcome to ‘Psychology Together’.
